    January 16 to March 15, 2025
    Opening: Thursday, January 16 at 5 p.m.

    Great news!

This January, the studio-gallery Espace St-Jean will be relocated to #423, in a new, more serene space, better suited for creation and art exhibitions, all while remaining at the heart of the action!

Nicknamed “the galleries' floor,” the 4th floor of the Belgo Building includes by itself a dozen art galleries, art centers and artist studios, over the 24 in the Belgo.

We look forward to unveiling this new space on Thursday, January 16th, 2025 for the Belgo Winter Opening!

    Happy New Year 2025!

A Dual Exhibition by Denise Buisman Pilger

Denise Buisman Pilger will present on Thursday, September 12, Soul & Cityscapes, an exhibition that invites visitors to dive through abstract worlds of identity and dynamic urban landscapes.

Her series Unveiling, delves into Buisman Pilger's introspective journey, where abstract mixed media paintings serve as a conduit for revealing her authentic core. Through subtle textures and luminous layers of acrylics, combined with materials like washi paper and oil pastels, these works address the challenge of maintaining a true sense of identity in a world often dominated by external pressures and constant performance.

Complementing this introspection is Traveling the World, a series that transports viewers across global urban landscapes. Here, the artist merges her love for photography, painting, and travel through the physical layering of acrylic transfers and textured papers. These works echo the complexity and richness of our urban spaces and the inner experiences they represent.

The opening of this exhibition is taking place as part of the Rentrée du Belgo, where around twenty art galleries, artist centres, exhibition spaces and cultural organisations will open their doors from 5pm to 10pm to present their most recent exhibitions.

En noir et blanc... et couleur

    July 27 to August 23, 2024

For the summer season, the gallery presents a group exhibition comprising the works of Denise Buisman Pilger, Annie Lapointe and Louis-Bernard St-Jean.

    About Denise Buisman Pilger

Denise Buisman Pilger, known as the Artist Abroad, is a contemporary artist, expat and avid globetrotter.

Born in Amsterdam, she’s also called Fort Worth, Montreal and Nagoya home, using each relocation as an opportunity to explore and gather inspiration.

Her urban, mixed-media paintings spark a nostalgic connection between places and the people we became because of them. Driven by a need to discover her authentic self, she’s recently broadened her creative horizons to encompass abstract art. Be it figurative or abstract, Denise has a strong sense of composition and consistently works with subtle textures and vibrant colors. Her themes revolving around nostalgia and genuine human identity.

Denise’s creative practice spans nearly two decades, commencing with several years in the role of a professional graphic designer and art director for print media, with experiences both in Europe and North America. Her fascination with texture is at the core of her creative process, involving an array of mixed-media techniques, such as photo manipulation, image transfers, and acrylics.

Denise holds a Bachelor of Arts in Illustration from Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam. Her work has found a global stage through exhibitions including Art Basel, Art Expo New York, the Toyota Museum and the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris and galleries in New York, Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Nagoya, Okazaki and Gifu.

The exhibition is free and open to all.

Please note that there will not be an opening event for this exhibition.

Jean Leduc – Ne me renie jamais plus

Opening: Thursday, August 31, 5 pm to 9 pm

Œuvre intitulée «Cadillac» par Jean Leduc « Cadillac » by Jean Leduc

The gallery is proud to present its inaugural exhibition by Montreal artist Jean Leduc, titled « Ne me renie jamais plus » (Never Deny Me Ever Again).

    About this Exhibition...
This exhibition presents a direct testimony of the reality of the LGBTQ+ community, of rediscovery and self-acceptance, as seen and experienced by the artist Jean Leduc, from the 90s to today.

The immortalization of the present moment, that of languorous, seductive glances, captured on the spot; the pain of broken hearts, the violence of loves torn away, torn apart, laid bare; the mirage of the comfort promised by the drug, and the harsh return to reality; eternal solitude, this void that one tries in vain to fill, to escape; his works are intended to be a tribute to the melancholy of an innocence stolen by the false promise of a lost paradise.

    Biography

Born in 1956 in St-Hubert, a suburb of Montreal, to Catholic parents, and studied at the University of Montreal in art history, literature and philosophy; he worked briefly in teaching, before becoming a real estate financing advisor.

In 1995, Leduc began his career in art and literature, traveling the world to stay in Paris, Los Angeles, Vancouver, then New York, before returning to Montreal.

Since 2000, Jean Leduc has devoted himself almost exclusively to creation: visual works, writing novels, poetry, film scripts and television shows.
